about the artist
jennifer pratt
Equine artist Jennifer Pratt captures the distinct contours and movement of the equine form in flowing, painterly artwork with an abstract feel. Drawing inspiration from the unique character and energy of horses, each of Jennifer's paintings create a sense of connection between the viewer and her equine subjects.
Born in Canada, Jennifer grew up riding and competing as a hunter before studying interior design at Sheridan College in Oakville Ontario. While working in commercial design, Jennifer rented a studio space in a rustic old mill with a community of artists who encouraged her to show her own artwork, and soon found herself trading her drafting table for an easel.
Jennifer's creative process begins in the field, where she finds inspiration in the unique movement, character, and contours of horses. Back in her studio, Jennifer surrounds herself with field notes, photographs, and loud house music as she brings her subjects to life on canvas.
Jennifer has spend years developing her uniquely striking style. Working primarily in oils, Jennifer uses layers of transparent colors, reduction techniques, and a variety of brushes and grips to create energy and emotion in her work.
