"In the Emerge series, I explored the concept of one idea, the simple notion of a grey horse walking towards the viewer. It began with a series of sketches, drafting lines of a horse, each attempt evolving from the previous.

Using a fairly large canvas gave me the room to use various tools other than a paintbrush to apply and mix paint directly on the canvas. This gave me a full range of motion of my arm to accentuate movement in the step stride as well as her tail.

The slight tilt to her head gives character and expression while balancing the composition with the swish of her tail. There is an overall flow to the painting."
