"The second preliminary sketch from the Emerge Series. The idea is evolving with the addition of subtle color. I wiped the background a warm, pinkish grey, then used a reduction process of wiping away the form using q-tips and Gamsol for highlights, further accenting the values with Paynes Grey and white.

At this point I was playing with how much of the horse to include in the final larger painting. I did ultimately indicate the other leg, however for this sketch, at this stage, there was already a balance to it, almost like a yin-yang feel with where the head was positioned and the leading leg, I left for the viewer to fill in."
