"My second painting of South Steens Mustang, Zain. My intention with this painting was to convey soft heat. When I found Zain grazing, it was midday with the sun high overhead. While I am not a representational artist in landscapes, my goal is usually to attempt to convey the feeling of what my surroundings at the time I referenced my subject in life. In this instance, while the hot sun was overhead, there was still a softness to the scene in life as I saw it. A quiet moment of a single horse grazing with his one mare. Given the heat, there were flies, and the swish of the tail provided some temporary relief."
