"I view each painting I work with as a unique challenge. While I often work in a painterly fashion, there are times when details suck me in and justified. In this instance the glossy coat of this athletic warmblood was an attribute I decided to highlight and spend time accentuating.
Combining his simple yet striking pose with shapes of color to break up the monotony and predictability of realism was the test. I played back and forth with values with for a few weeks (a term I have affectionately coined ‘Canoodling’) until the balance felt about right.
At one point I questioned myself ~ why the turquoise, does it make sense? Well, it’s my favorite color, so heck yeah. 😍"
- Jennifer Pratt
